Targeted light to support cellular energy and recovery.
PBM applies red and near-infrared light to targeted areas of your body or head. Your care team determines whether it fits your goals and monitors every session.

What your session looks like.
Your plan depends on your condition, medical history, and assessment. Your physician will explain which areas to treat, how often you will come in, and why.
- Session length
- About 20 minutes
- What it feels like
- Painless, sometimes a gentle warmth
- Afterward
- Go straight back to your day
- During treatment
- You can rest with your eyes protected
Why PBM may be part of your care.
PBM is not a stand-alone answer for every condition. When clinically appropriate, it can support the energy and repair processes inside your cells.
Fuel your cells
Specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by mitochondria, which may help cells produce the energy they need to repair.
Calm inflammation
Light therapy may help regulate inflammation and support circulation in the nerves and tissues being treated.
Strengthen a larger plan
When appropriate, PBM works alongside hyperbaric oxygen, rehabilitation and other therapies selected for your goals.
You will know what is happening at every step.
The light panels may look bright, but each session is quiet, relaxing, and closely supervised.
We plan your treatment
At your first session, we choose the areas to treat and the light settings suited to your condition.
You get comfortable
You sit or lie down and put on protective eyewear. We position the light panel over the treatment area.
The light session begins
Most people feel nothing or a gentle warmth. You can rest, and we can reposition the light if needed.
You go about your day
There is no recovery time. Once the session ends, you can return to your usual activities right away.
A little preparation helps your session go smoothly.
Before you arrive
- Skip lotion, sunscreen, and makeup on the areas being treated
- Wear clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area
- Tell us about any medications that make you sensitive to light
- Tell us if you are pregnant or have a history of cancer in the treatment area
Your comfort and safety
- A trained team member monitors every session
- Protective eyewear shields your eyes from the light
- We can adjust your position or pause the session at any time
- We track your symptoms regularly to see how you are responding
Common PBM questions.
Does PBM hurt?
No. Most people feel nothing at all, or a gentle warmth on the skin, and many find sessions relaxing. The light is bright, so you will wear protective eyewear throughout treatment. Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable so we can adjust your position or the settings.
How many sessions will I need?
Most plans involve regular sessions over several weeks. The exact number depends on the condition being treated, the protocol your clinician recommends, and how you respond. We explain the proposed schedule before treatment begins.
Is PBM the same as a tanning bed?
No. PBM uses specific red and near-infrared wavelengths, not the ultraviolet light used for tanning. It does not tan or burn the skin. Instead, the light is absorbed by your cells and works through a different biological process.
Does insurance cover PBM?
Insurance usually does not cover PBM. Our team will explain private-pay pricing, HSA and FSA options, and whether PBM is already included in a program your physician recommends for you.
